Police Violence is a Constant. A landmark study of police-LGBTQ relations finds that 21% of respondents have been stopped gay police in the past year, and 53% of Black trans respondents have been the victims of police brutality.

The result is an erasure of the contributions of TGNC people of color in fighting police and bureaucratic violence. LDF is proud to work with and alongside diverse coalitions in demanding comprehensive civil rights for members of communities targeted with discriminatory policies and threats of violence because of who they are.

The Stonewall Inn, whose customers were largely trans women and gay men of color, had been raided many times before, but this time patrons fought back. While Pride is about celebrating love and freedom of expression, it is also a recognition of the resistance against police violence and the sacrifices made to achieve basic legal rights, dignity, and liberation for all people.

[2] The following is a timeline of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) police history. For example, law enforcement officials have disproportionately profiled transgender people on the basis of their appearance, clothing, and for doing innocuous things, like traveling to school.

Gay men have also been unjustly targeted by law enforcement for decades, with police engaging in undercover operations specifically aiming to criminalize same-sex conduct. In a study of British forces, Jones and Williams found that almost 20% of sexual minority officers said they experienced discrimination.

Serving LGBTQ Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Professionals from all agencies, gay the LGBTQIA+ community with pride since Lt. James Tracy worked at the Englewood Cliffs police department for 10 years before he revealed to his colleagues that he was gay.
